Live Slate release notes

// Features

• — A Prime Video chip. It's the only national carrier for Thursday Night Football and some baseball and WNBA games, and until now the app didn't recognize it.
• — A Cable chip, next to Over the Air, for channels you can only watch through a cable or live-TV package: NHL Network, MLB Network, NFL Network, NBA TV, CNBC, Golf Channel, Tennis Channel and beIN.
• — A short launch animation: the LiveSlate mark settles into place and the name sweeps in, in the same colors as pull-to-refresh. It plays once per visit, a tap skips it, and it's skipped entirely if your device is set to reduce motion.

// Fixes

• — A game carried only on a channel the app didn't recognize disappeared the moment you picked any service, even with every service selected. Panthers at Hurricanes on NHL Network was the game that exposed it.
• — Games on MLB Network were missed when the listing abbreviated it to "MLB Net".
• — In the iPhone home-screen app, the area behind the clock and battery was a plain white bar. It now matches the app in both light and dark mode. If you already have the app installed, remove it and add it to your home screen again to pick this up.

// Improvements

• — Teams on Scripps Sports local stations are now labeled as local broadcasts, so those games say they depend on where you live instead of "coverage unknown".
• — If one day of a multi-day schedule fails to load, the other days still come through, and the response says which leagues were only partly loaded.

// Fixes

• — "Around the country" plotted almost no college games. On a typical Saturday only 5 of 71 appeared, while every professional league was at or near full coverage — so the map looked broken precisely when the schedule was fullest. All 71 now appear.
• — Because a game with no location also couldn't be placed, those games showed no weather either. College venues now carry a location, and the nineteen college stadiums with a roof are correctly marked so they're never given a forecast.
• — Asking for more than one day of schedule quietly returned almost nothing. The provider stopped accepting date ranges for team sports, so a week's request came back holding only motor racing and UFC — and reported success while doing it. The app itself only ever asks for today, so nobody saw this, but anything built on a longer window would have.

// Improvements

• — When part of the schedule fails to load, the response now says which leagues are missing instead of returning a short list that looks like a quiet night.

// Features

• — The verdict. Every game carries a plain answer to the only question that matters: can I watch this? Four of them — you can watch this, needs a service you don't have, depends on your market, or coverage unknown — plus a separate line for games nobody has posted a carrier for yet. The verdict reads what you've told us you subscribe to and never what you're currently filtering by.
• — Every game card opens its details. Tapping a card used to open the map, and only when we recognised the venue. Now every card opens the full sheet, the map is a button inside it, and games at unfamiliar venues can be opened for the first time.
• — Missing games are counted, not hidden. The feed says how many of today's games are carried only on services you don't have, names which services would unlock them and how many each would add, and shows you those games in place without changing anything you've saved.
• — Empty sections explain themselves. A section with nothing in it used to disappear, taking the explanation with it. Now it says which happened: nothing is on, your filters removed them, or they've moved to another section.
• — A covered-leagues list, so a sport we don't carry is distinguishable from one you've filtered out without having to ask.
• — UFC. A fight card shows up as one entry with the card number and the main event, not twelve separate rows. Open it and you get the full bout order with the main event marked. The time shown is the main card, not the first prelim hours earlier.
• — Weather, injuries and team leaders on the game sheet. Weather appears only where it means something — never for indoor sports, and never for a game under a roof.
• — Betting odds, off by default and stayed off unless you turn them on.
• — The slate is ordered by what's worth watching and openable, with the reason shown on each game. Ordering never removes a game, and it never disturbs the day's Featured Game.

// Fixes

• — A regional sports network could be reported as a national streaming service. A Phillies game on NBC Sports Philadelphia read as available on Peacock and over the air, because the channel name matched both. It's neither, and on a typical evening this affected most baseball and hockey games.
• — A finished game could say you can watch it. It now names where it was, in the past tense.
• — A game's service links could point at a service that couldn't open it.
• — Choosing services in the My Services panel used to double as a filter, so narrowing your view was indistinguishable from cancelling subscriptions. They're now separate: the panel records what you have, the chips narrow what's on screen, and the view resets on reload.

// Improvements

• — Fighter names are no longer shown in capitals.

// Features

• — A game details sheet. The Featured Game card and the two smaller cards beside it used to jump straight to the map; now they open the details first — teams with rankings, records and the score, the start time or live clock, the venue and city, and the services showing it. The map is one button inside the sheet rather than the only thing a tap could do.
• — College postseason games are named. Bowl games drop the sponsor and keep the bowl ("TaxSlayer Gator Bowl" reads as "Gator Bowl"), College Football Playoff games show their round and their bowl, and March Madness games show the round and the region.
• — The Featured Game picker now understands the college postseason, so a Playoff semifinal or a Final Four game outranks an ordinary regular-season night.
• — Live Slate's own logo replaces the Left City Labs mark in the header, and Left City Labs moves to a plain credit link in the footer.

// Fixes

• — The "My Services" button stayed a solid white pill in dark mode at every screen size, and its label on that white background was close to unreadable. It now matches the buttons either side of it.
• — League filtering appeared twice on a phone — once as a row under the header and again inside the menu. It lives in the menu only.
• — On very narrow phones the header pushed the page wider than the screen, so it scrolled sideways and the settings button sat off the edge.
• — Pressing Enter on a service badge in the featured card opened the details sheet instead of following the link.
• — The keyboard could reach league buttons inside the closed menu, which sits off-screen and is invisible — a screen reader read them out too.
• — Dragging inside an open panel could trigger a pull-to-refresh behind it, which rebuilt the page underneath and left the panel stranded.
• — The logo was being downloaded twice on every fresh visit.

// Improvements

• — On a phone the header is a single row instead of two, which brings the service filters up into the first screen alongside the day's counts and the search box.

// Features

• — NCAA coverage across six college sports.
• — A new All / Pro / College switch above the league list — pick a level and the list follows.
• — Pick a college sport and you get Top 25 and conference filters (SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, and the rest behind More).
• — College game cards show the national ranking before the school name, plus records, conference, neutral-site games, and the live quarter or half with the clock.
• — ESPN+ is a separate service filter from ESPN.
• — The Featured Game strip now shows a main game plus two more worth watching, and takes up less room.
• — The globe became "Around the country" — pick a game and it spins to the venue, live games stand out, and you can collapse it or use the plain venue list instead.

// Fixes

• — A live F1 race showed as an upcoming Friday practice session. Race weekends now show the session that's actually on — practice, qualifying or the race — with the right start time and the circuit.
• — The My Services picker could grow taller than a phone screen, hiding the close button and the Save button with no way out except force-quitting the app. It now always fits.
• — Every service now shows its real logo instead of a text placeholder, in both light and dark mode, all in a single monochrome style.
• — Event counts across the app now agree with each other and with what is actually on screen.

// Improvements

• — The service filter is a single scrollable row instead of a block that grew every time a service was added.

• — Dark mode, with the option to follow your device.
• — Pull down to refresh, with a branded splash while it loads.
• — A "What's new" note the first time you open the app after a release.

• — World Cup games were missing — FOX (English) and Peacock (Spanish) broadcasts are now mapped.
• — The service filter took up about a third of the screen on a phone before you saw a single game.
• — Removed the "may be blacked out" caution from game listings — it applied too broadly to be useful.
• — Dark mode contrast, the theme toggle jumping onto its own row, and logo and icon sizing.

// Improvements

• — The schedule is scoped to today, so the feed is what's on now rather than a long lookahead.
• — Streaming-service mapping moved to a single source of truth, so a service only has to be added in one place.
• — Automated browser tests now run on every change, so releases stop breaking things that used to work.
• — Hardened the deploy so a bad build is caught before it goes live.

• — Add Live Slate to your home screen — it launches full-screen, no browser bar.
• — Offline support: the app shell loads and stays usable without a connection. (Correction, 2026-09-20: not delivered. The manifest shipped and the app is installable, but there is no service worker, so it does not load offline.)
